HIKING

Ousel Falls Park & Trailhead

This 1.6-mile hike, which crosses a ravine over the South Fork of the West Fork of the Gallatin River and meanders through the woods before ending at a 100-foot waterfall, is an impressive hike worth visiting any time of year.

Lava Lake Trailhead

Lava Lake is a great hike that climbs to a beautiful mountain lake in the Lee Metcalf Wilderness. The trail is located in the Gallatin Canyon between Bozeman and Big Sky and is one of the most popular trails in the area. The lake is almost exactly 3 miles from the trailhead but the trail gains 1,600 feet elevation in those three miles.

Beehive Basin Trailhead

Beehive Basin Rd, Gallatin Gateway, MT 59730, USA

Beehive Basin boasts some of the most breathtaking views Big Sky has to offer. This 6.6 mile round trip hike slopes up moderately with an elevation gain of 1,500 feet giving views of Lone Peak along the way. After 3.3 miles of trail, hikes enter Beehive Basin, a U-shaped glacial cirque with a crystal clear lake that overlooks Lone Peak.

Hummocks Trailhead

Gallatin Gateway, MT 59730, USA

The Hummocks Trail is named for its rolling topography that creates a playful balance of ups and downs for an entertaining user experience. The hummocks on this 3-mile loop are shaded by forest canopy as the trail traverses aspen groves and two small wetlands.

Mountain to Meadow Trail

Mountain to Meadow is a highly rated 4 mile popular blue singletrack scenic trail located near Big Sky Montana. This mountain bike primary trail can be used downhill primary and has a moderate overall physical rating. On average it takes 27 minutes to complete this trail

Uplands Trailhead

Gallatin Gateway, MT 59730, USA

A dirt-surfaced 2.2-mile loop, Uplands has a steady uphill climb for the first mile, leading hikers, bikers and trail runners through fields of wildflowers, aspen groves and forest canopy. At the top of the loop, you’ll cross a small plateau that opens to an expansive view of Big Sky, making the climb well worth the effort.
